Q Though the word “slavery” never appears in the U.S. Constitution, several key provisions regarding slavery are included in the U.S. Constitution. Two of the most important are Article I, Section 2 (the "3/5ths Clause"), and Article 4, Section 2. In your own words, explain what these two Articles say, and offer an assessment of how much power they grant owners of slaves in the new national government. (Hint: you'll want to think carefully about what advantages the 3/5ths clause grants Southern states in the House of Representatives, and why that matters). Next, offer an assessment of how this compromise might create tension between Northern states, which are beginning to gradually do away with slavery, and Southern states, where the slave population is growing.
